I love my girls

When at school, I don't get to see my girlfriends as much as I would like. Actually, it's pretty close to never, which really really makes me sad. Therefore, being home has been absolutely awesome. I've been able to do all the girly things I don't normally get to do, such as shopping, going out to lunch {like the adults that we are}, and just catching up with each others lives.

Last Tuesday, we went out to Olive Garden {and of course I got my favorite dessert, tiramisu}, rented Easy A for some girl chick-flick bonding time, and ended the day with shopping at our favorite stores around town.

We got together again on Thursday and had our own little game night. We played Uno, Mad Gab, and Slam Scrabble, all of which are highly addictive {and quite fun}. Most of the night was just spent laughing and chatting it up again, which is just what we all needed. I also played chef and whipped up some delish grilled cheeses. Yup, I'm well on way to Iron Chef, you just wait.

Lindz and I during our game night.

Aren't these shoes amazing? Nik and I were so close to getting them!
Now I wish we would have...

I also wish I would have gotten these babies.

But, I did get these! I feel so tall in them!

Nik and I in front of Lindz's Christmas tree!

My girls! Lindz, Nik, and I.
Love them like crazy.

I'm so happy to be home!

I've been having so much fun being home that I've neglecting my little blog.
Hopefully this makes up for it, because I want it to like me still!

Majority of my week has been overloaded with last minute Christmas shopping.
Every single day I seem to be in Target, shopping for one thing or another for friends and family.
I love Christmas (boy, do I), but I am so ready to be done with the crowded stores
and the hard-to-find parking spots!

I've discovered that I really like Starbucks' Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate!
(it tastes extra yummy with vanilla almond biscotti, just an fyi)
Thomas was sooo tired after shopping all day, but he still let me snap a photo of him.
Each night, after hours of shopping, this little guy came and cuddled up with me
(in fact, here he's laying in my bed, taking up allll the room!)
And just for fun, I've been playing with a new app on my phone.
(still trying to perfect the timing, though haha)
Hope you're having a great week!

i'm backkkk!

Hi! It's been such a long time since I've graced my presence on my little blog, but here I am now!
Hmm, let's see, so finals are over (thank goodness), I'm home for Christmas,
and I'm going to Texas on Christmas Day!
Yayyyy! I'm so excited.

I'll update later on what's been going on. This was just a teaser!
p.s. don't you love that picture of Thomas? Too funny!

freedom is just around the corner

...but until then, I'll be gone, busy with studying for my finals.
I'll miss this little 'ol blog, but it's for the best. I neeeeeeeed to study.
So, good-bye. For now. I'll be back. Promise.

i've done the impossible

A little over a month ago, Thomas and I decided to test ourselves and go without fast food for a month. At first, I found it rather difficult because McDonald's fries are my weakness.
But towards the middle of the month, I found myself not craving anything fried in grease.
Trust me, it was quite surprising to me, too.

As for now, past our designated "no fast food" month, I'm happy to report that we
(Thomas and I) still haven't had any fast food, and I really don't feel the need to go out and get some.
It's been so refreshing eating home-cooked meals every night,
along with healthy snacks during the day.
I can definitely make this into a permanent thing. Of course, I'm sure there will be
times when fast food is the only option, but until then,
I'm abstaining from all that is fast and fried.

i don't really have much to say

 {Isn't he precious? Yeah, I thought so, too.}

All day I've been meeting with professors and looking at potential apartments for next year, so I really haven't time to think of anything exciting to write about. So, this will have to suffice.
Good news, though: Wednesday will mark exactly one week left of this semester.
No more papers, no more exams, and no more finals.
...but until then, I will be in hibernation/study mode in my room. Joy.
Hope you all had a wonderful Monday!

cookies in a tin

When these delicious shortbread cookies are found around my house, it means that it's Christmas time.
These cookies are probably one of my favorite traditions that my family has,
and I'm so happy it's that time of year to indulge myself with them, and not feel guilty about it.
I've also picked up a bag of Hershey Peppermint Kisses, which are also a family fav.

Do you have any family holiday traditions?

a few of my favorite things

There are many things in life that always seem to make me happy.
Here are a few of those things:
1.  New books, with crisp pages
2. Freshly baked goods, all warm from the oven
3. Wearing new clothes for the first time
4. The feeling of accomplishment I get after a work-out
5. Being able to sing all the lyrics to a new song
6. Seeing my breath in cold weather
7. Finding a movie I don't mind watching more than once
8. Buying gifts for people
9. Seeing cats walking around on campus
10. Trying new food {and loving it}

What are some things that make you happy?

and this is how I ventured out in the cold today

all nice and toasty! except, my hands get cold so easily, so I should probably wear my mittens, but I'm afraid I'll get laughed at because it's Florida...and who wears mittens in Florida?!
I know it's only 32 degrees today, which I'm sure isn't that cold for those who live in the northern regions of the country, but as a Florida girl, I'm freezing. and I love it.
Enjoy the cold!

it's that time of year

when this hat is acceptable again!

c'mon Florida winter, stay awhile, for you've been quite missed.

I feel like I don't really have anything significant to say today, er tonight. Nothing too exciting is going on, and nothing exciting is coming up {yet}. I must live quite the boring life, huh? I hope not, at least.
Okay okay, one good thing happened today: my roommate and I walked to Krispy Kreme and enjoyed our warm {if you order the glaze, they give them to you hot and fresh} donuts while watching Glee tonight. It was great, so great that I now want more...

just another manic monday

Oh boy. It's Monday again. It just crept up on me like it knew I was enjoying my break a little too much. Boo. But hey, looking on the bright side, only seven days left of class! This means I have three exams, two final papers, and two finals until CHRISTMAS BREAK! Get excited, people! I know I am!

As of current, I'm writing a paper, listening to Architecture in Helsinki, eating {no surprise there}, and patiently waiting for Gossip Girl to come on. To be honest, though, I don't know why I still watch that show. It's gotten too confusing and overly dramatic. Oh well, at least I have something to look forward to with all this work piling up. Okay, done complaining. Have a good night!

my thanksgiving break in pictures

Thomas and I waiting to see Harry Potter again. This time we took the little brothers along!
This little guy and I spent our Friday night lounged on the couch, watching the Harry Potter movies from start to finish with the fam.
And when I wasn't visiting with family or friends, I spent my time reading these books. I'm getting a little obsessed, no? {also, ignore the fact that I look completely sleep deprived, I stayed up late reading a few nights...}
It was so hard saying goodbye to this face, but it was even harder saying goodbye to my family. It's always so bittersweet going home. It's great to visit and relax, but it's so sad when it comes time to leave. I miss everyone so much already.

How was your Thanksgiving?

what i'm thankful for

Because I was busy visiting with family and friends on Thursday, and too exhausted from Black Friday yesterday, I apologize for this being a bit delayed. But here it isssss!

This year, I'm thankful for many, many things. Without the happiness they bring me, I would not be the person I am today. So, thank you, all.

Here's my list:

1. My family (extended family, this means you, too!) for always supporting me and constantly being at my side, no matter the situation. I love you all so much.
2. My mother. She's my rock and my everything. Without her, I don't know where I would be. She's my biggest supporter, the person I would go to if I ever needed anything {and I mean ANYTHING}, my best friend, and one of the most generous people I know {she would literally give her last dollar to anyone in need}. I love her so much, and it makes me so happy having such a close relationship with her. Needless to say, I love you, Momma!
3. My boyfriend. He's brought so much love into my life. Love that I've never experienced before he came along. Without him, I wouldn't know what true love feels like. He's probably one of the most sweetest, funniest, and generous guys I know. You're amazing, Bubs, I love you.
4. My siblings. I know I already said my family, but these little guys {and sister} are constantly cracking me up. They are the strongest little kids I know, and continue to grow into brilliant young adults. I love them so much and would do anything for them.
5. My health. Even though I'm constantly struggling with my body image,  I am so thankful for being completely healthy {most of the time}.
6. My friends. I never really get to see them, so the time we do spend together I try and savior it as much as I can. They accept me for how weird and awkward I am, therefore I am thankful for their acceptance. I love you, all.
7. My cat, Mufasa. His cute little face makes me want to cuddle him and love him forever. He makes me so happy just looking at him. {I realize I sound a bit like a crazy cat lady, but you know what? I don't care. I love that chubby little bundle of fluff.}
8. My education. No matter how much I complain and whine about the immense amount of work I'm constantly up to my nose in, I'm so fortunate to be able to attend such an amazing school, and not have my family suffer financially because of it.

i love this guy. a lot.

Yesterday was Thomas and I's 1.5 year anniversary. It was a lovely evening, just enjoying each others company. We also got Panera, which made it extra awesome. Just sayin'.
I love you, I love you, I love you!!!

isn't it precious?

Ignore the fact that the kitten is in a jar. Other than that, it's just too cute not to show.

and this was my weekend

Thomas enjoying his Italian Knight Club at Jimmy John's. I had the Club Lulu {without mayo} and it was soooo good!
Thomas picking out an appetizer to snack on before our movie during Date Night. We ended up with the Grilled Chicken Flatbread. It was good, but it definitely could have been plated better {those were Thomas' words- he would know, he's the chef-in-training}.
Ignore how weird I was cold and we were sitting outside, okay?
Tiramisu. My absolute favoriteeee dessert. Ever. I seriously could eat this any time of day. I even ate it for dinner one night. The entire thing. All. By. Myself. It was awesome.

this is why I love my best friend

Because she sends me surprise letters in the mail, along with goofy pictures of us from back in the day. You're the best. Love youuuuuuuu.

is it just me, or does post-workout hair rock?

Almost every time that I've completed a work-out, I've found that not only does my hair smell of fresh shampoo, but it's extra soft and shiny, too. I must be crazy because now I'm wishing my hair was sweaty all the time, in order to make it this fabulous. Hmmm. Maybe it is just me, though. Am I crazy?

it's the weekend and I have no plans

well, I mean, I have some plans, but nothing I truly want to be doing {as in homework/studying, a required concert I have to attend for a class, and tabling an event for a club I'm in}. Although one third of these are already completed, I still have the rest of the weekend to look forward to doing things I have absolutely no desire to do to begin with.

I'm just in a poop mood because I don't get to spend time with my boyfriend this weekend. And I've been missing my mom like crazy lately, which is also contributing to my an overall saddened state of mind. I really don't want to be at school this weekend.

Hope your weekend is going a lot better than mine. I'm looking forward to the week starting and getting over with already. C'mon, Thursday, get here quick!

wish list

I've been trying to compile a decent Christmas list for Santa this year, but I'm having a hard time coming up with things that I need. However, I'm having so much fun window-shopping; there's so much I would love to add to my collection, but so little cash to make it happen. So here are a few things that I wouldn't mind if Santa left for me under the tree:
1.  Lace skirt by Lulus
2. Jeweled Clutch by Forever 21
3. Cheek Stain by Tarte

My wonderful boyfriend just made me a delicious dinner: chicken parmesan, along with warm, straight-from-the-oven crescent rolls. Let me just tell you, I can never eat just one. In fact, I had three. There's no way I feel bad about it either, because they were so good!

Have you ever found yourself in a position where you just can't get enough of the irresistible deliciousness of something?

I feel like loungin'. So that's just what I'm going to do. I've got a bunch of magazines I wouldn't mind digging into, a good book to cuddle up in bed with, and some homework that could use my attention. Oh, and a boyfriend to snuggle and cook dinner with.

It's going to be a good day. Happy Veteran's Day!

P.S. I can't stop listening to this song! It's sooo good!

 {I only wish Florida looked as gorgeous as this}

Isn't it just gorgeous out? I find myself drawn more to the outdoors this week because the weather is just so refreshing. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting outside of my next class a half hour early because I wanted to enjoy the fresh air beforehand.

I absolutely love this time of year. Classes are both winding down and getting hectic {if that makes any sense?}. While some professors love to pile on the material right before finals, a select few enjoy giving us a break. Speaking of a break, Thanksgiving break is so close I can taste it! Well, I can taste the pumpkin pie. I plan on eating as much of it as I possibly can take, and to visit with friends I haven't seen since school began. Plus, being with my family again will be nice, too. I miss them so much.

I really wouldn't mind if this week would hurry up and get over with. Along with next week, too. I need the break!

Hope you're having a wonderful day. Go outside!

was amazing!
The photo above was taken at a sweet little ice cream shop that makes their own ice cream and treats. Little ice cream was eaten then because it was freezing {a whopping 30 degrees}! I'm still wondering why we ventured out into the country for ice cream in the first place. Cold weather is not the time for ice cream! But hey, it was delicious.

So, I guess I should start off why we {Thomas and I} went to Virginia in the first place. Thomas' father lives in Virginia {not far from D.C.}, and he was retiring from the Air Force this past Friday, so of course we went to offer our support and dedication.

We arrived in D.C. Thursday evening, and we were exhausted from a long day of traveling. Friday was the day of the ceremony. It was such an emotional experience. Tom {Thomas' father} spoke to each of his family members individually, and gave a tearful speech, which of course, made the entire audience and myself cry as well. It was a beautiful ceremony to say the least. That night was the reception and party, complete with delicious food and warm desserts {it's safe to say that I gained a few pounds on this vacation}. I was also introduced to a new board game, which I wouldn't mind having for myself now, called Quelf. It's probably the most random/awkward board game I've ever played, but it was so much fun. There was a time during the game that I had to turn my shirt inside out and wear it like that for the remainder of the game. Doesn't it sound weird? It was so great, though.

On Saturday, we ventured into the country for some homemade ice cream. Although very delicious, it was still very cold. I ended up having my ice cream later that night for dessert. Well worth that wait! Thomas whipped out his culinary skills and made Fettucini Alfredo for everyone, complete with a delicious made from scratch Alfredo sauce. I even helped and grated an entire block of Parmesan cheese! I can't wait for Thomas to make meals like this for me every night, but maybe that's just wishing thinking... Oh! I also learned how to play Texas Hold'em that night, and I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty good. Thomas keeps telling me he's so proud of how quickly I picked it up. I'm not quite ready for the Big Leagues yet, though.

Sunday was the day that we left to go back home, and boy was I ready for that! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love traveling and seeing family, but it just feels so good to come back to your own bed and space after a trip away.

The trip was just the thing we needed. We're both so stressed out about school, money, and just life in general, that a vacation was just the way to get away from all the stresses for the weekend to enjoy time together with family, friends, and good food. I hope the next time we go back it will be to D.C., because I want to visit the museums. I'm so fascinated with the history.

As I'm writing this, I'm sitting outside of my dorm, in the beautiful weather. I hope it stays, because I sure can get used to this.

we have arrived

We're in Virginia! I just wanted to update real quick, so don't worry, there shall be more about the trip later. Hope your Thursday was as great as mine was!

Thomas and I on the plane. It's a bit blurry due to turbulence, but I still love it.

i miss you

                                                                      {Isn't my best friend gorgeous?}

Lately, I've been missing a certain someone: my best friend forever, Nik. Yes, I just called her my BFF, so what? It's true.

We live so far apart because of school now {almost 3 hours away}, and I don't go home too often, so it's been quite awhile since we last saw each other. I miss being able to just lay in my bed with her, talking and talking about our lives, doing absolutely nothing else. We used to do that for hours at a time and it never got old, not even once. I miss laughing at each other, being goofy, and going for midnight runs to McDonald's for hot fudge sundaes. I miss Zumba nights so much. Tuesday was my favorite day of the week, just for that reason. I miss going shopping together for hours and ending up not buying anything. I especially miss just being able to drive three minutes to each others' houses, just to say "hi."

Although we skype as much as we can {we're both busy college students}, it's just not enough. I need some me Nikki time; I'm going through withdrawl! If you're reading this Nik, let's pack our bags now and head to Italy! We did it once before, so let's do it again! If not, I can wait 'til this summer for when I tag along with you and your man in Europe!

I love you, girl! Miss you bunches!

just a little break

Although I am in the middle of studying for tomorrow's early morning exam {as evidenced above}, I just wanted to take a quick little break for this. Aside from stuffing my face with chocolate and ice cream, I managed to do absolutely nothing significant this weekend. And you know, what? It felt so good! Don't you just love weekends like that?

Here are a few of my favorite things about this weekend:

- Spending the entire weekend with the boyfriend
- Making delicious home-made burritos and yellow rice
- Making yummy English muffin pizzas
- Wearing pink lipstick around the house and feelin' fancy
- Wearing pajamas all day, and not having anywhere to be, or things to do
- Getting into a new show and not being able to peel my eyes away from the screen, even for just a second {Dexter}
- And finally, spending Halloween with the boyfriend, even if we didn't celebrate too much. Just being together was enough.

How was your weekend?

sweet tooth

First and foremost, I'd like to dedicate this post to my mother. Because of you, Mom, I have inherited quite the sweet tooth. Your bowls of candy on the coffee table, your late night cookies and candy cravings, and your need to have dessert after dinner has now been channeled to me. Not that I'm complaining, because I love chocolate and all of its deliciousness, but still, I can see it being a potential problem in the future.

Actually, as I'm writing this, I'm eating a Nestle Drumstick. Yummmm {see Mom, you've trained me well}! But it's okay, because I had a nice, delicious salad for dinner, with some warm French bread, so having something for dessert is quite acceptable, at least in my book.

What about you, do you have a sweet tooth?
