I'm back!

Sorry for my lack of update over the past couple of days, I've been lying in bed, sick. So not how I pictured my few days of vacation to be, but at least I was able to catch up on some sleep. Can't complain about that.

I've also got to spend some much needed time with the little fluffers, Mufasa.
And look what I found when I was out and about today.
Yes, I bought it and I'm not ashamed!
I also got to get my hands on one of these babies. You haven't lived if you haven't had one of these. Seriously, go out and get one. Delish.

Can I just say

that I love my boyfriend?

He drove up to come see me {which is a 2-hour drive} for a few hours yesterday after a week of stress, studying and exams. Let me just say that it was just what the doctor ordered.

After some much needed cuddling and hugs, we headed over to Steak n' Shake for a big 'ol plate of greasy food. A double steak burger, fries and a mint cookies and cream shake with extra whipped cream hit the spot. {I stole some of Thomas' M&M's shake, too...}

And now I'm done with all of my spring classes and finals.
 Cue celebratory music.

Today is not a good day

Today has been nothing but horrible to me.
Is it tomorrow yet?
Better yet, is it Tuesday yet?

Oh, boy.

Yes, I look obnoxious. And yes, this what I look like during finals week.
Glad it's not a permanent look.

Missin' you

{This picture is soo old, but it's one of the last pictures I took with Ben before he moved.}

My family is kinda complicated. And by kinda, I mean very. They live all over the place, and I never get to see them as much as I would like to {more like at all}. Which leaves me missin' them like crazy virtually all the time.

Today for instance was one of those times.
Someone asked me about Ben, my little brother {he's 15 and not so little anymore}, and I began to tell them how wonderful he is. He's smarter than any other high school student I've ever met, extremely athletic {he plays football, track and lacrosse} and he's an all-around good kid. He's so helpful, too. He's is always babysitting for my stepmom and cleaning the house.

 The last time I saw him was two years ago. He moved to Maine with my stepmom so they could be closer to family up there, and ever since then I've been a little empty inside. You see, Ben and I get along really well and we have very similar personalities, which makes it so easy to be around him. I love him to pieces and miss him more and more each and every day.

It's days like these that make me wish I had endless amounts of money so I could hop on the next flight to Maine and go visit my wittle bruder. But until that day comes, iChat and Facebook will have to suffice. I love you, B.

Coming to a close

To say this academic year flew by is an understatement. It seems like just yesterday I was moving in and getting ready for my second year of college. But here I am, with less than five days left in this little college town of mine, I'm feeling nostalgic.

My roommate moved out today {well, moved most of her stuff out and went home to visit her family for a few days. She won't be coming back until after I move out, so today was technically our goodbye.}. When she was packing up I was fine, but once she left and reality hit, I couldn't help but cry. I've had so much fun with her this year and I'm so happy to have such a great person in my life. Without her, I don't think this year would have been so great.

Looking back, I wish I would have stayed more at school to spend time with her. But no worries, though, next year we'll be living together {with two other girls} in an off-campus apartment, so I'm looking forward to that.

Weekend Recap

 {These are pictures from the Undie Run. The idea behind the run is to wear clothes to the start, then take them off to donate them to charity and then run around campus once or twice. It's definitely not classy, but I was happy to donate my clothes and spend time with friends.}

This weekend I ran around in my underwear for a good cause {okay, so I wore a sports bra and my bathing suit bottoms. I didn't want to get too crazy.}, I hit up the local IHOP for some breakfast for dinner {yess!}, went on a retreat for the mentoring position I got and went tubing down a river for the day on Sunday. I also studied my tail off all weekend, but that really isn't as interesting.

I'd say it was a good weekend. And now finals are upon us. Activating hibernation now.

Oh, Mondays...

Monday is finally coming to a close {can I get a Hallelujah?!}, and I couldn't be any happier. Monday is my longest days and just seems to drag on and on. I'm happy it's already time to say goodbye to this day.

One more week until I can put my fourth semester of college to rest. Can I get another Hallelujah? I'm happy to say goodbye to this little college town of mine for three months. I need a break from it.

But until then, it's back to the books.

Happy Monday. Hang in there!

Weekly Gratitude

This week, classes and schoolwork consumed all of thoughts. That doesn't mean I wasn't grateful for this week, though. There are so many new opportunities approaching, and I'm so thankful for 'em!

Here's what I'm grateful for this week:

-Thank you to my roommate for keeping me sane. Not to get all corny all you guys, but seriously, she's one of the best roommate I've ever had {and could ever have}. I love having someone there to laugh with, complain with and just be weird with.
-Thank you to my mom for sending me a care package today! I can't wait to dive into those cookies....and conditioner? I love receiving stuff in the mail from you {and anyone, really}!
-Thank you to Shannon {my stepmom} for our conversation last week. It's been so long since I've talked to you, I missed you! It was great catching up finally.
-Thank you to my professors for canceling two of my classes this week. I needed it!
-Thank you to kind strangers who smile as you pass them on the sidewalk. I love unexpected kindness!

What are you grateful for this week?

Can't always get what you want

 {This is how I will look once finals are ovaaa}

Once again, this week seemed to fly by. Tomorrow's already Friday! Whaaaat? I'm excited. However, I'm not excited about the fact that I'm still at school. I really, really would rather not be here. I'd much rather be at a certain boyfriend's place, cuddling and going on dates. I guess I can't always get what I want.
Instead, I'll be at school, probably parked in the library studying for my upcoming finals. I only have two, though, so I guess that's somewhat decent.

After seeing a few other blogs do this little Q&A, I've decided to do the same. {Plus, I really like answering questions like this!}

A. Age: 20

B. Bed Size: Twin at school. I have a full-sized bed at home.

C. Chore you hate: Doing the dishes. I really despise dirty dishes piling up in the sink, but I despise washing them even more. Oh, and I hate taking out the trash. I feel like that's a man's job.

D. Dogs: I have one, his name is Jack. Technically, he's my sister's dog {she gives him the most attention}. I'm a cat lover, so I give all my attention to this little guy.
E. Essential start of your day: I have to have breakfast pretty much as soon I wake up. My tummy starts grumbling the second I get out of bed.

F. Favorite color: Purple! I love all sorts of shades of purple. It's just so...pretty.

G. Gold or silver: Silver all the way. There's just something about gold jewelry on me that just doesn't add up. I've never really liked it. I prefer the simplicity of silver.

H. Height: 5'3". When compared to Thomas, {he's 6'3"} I'm a munchkin.

I. Instruments you play: Does the recorder count? I've never been musically inclined, but I remember learning to play two songs on the recorder in fifth grade. Hot cross buns, anyone?

J. Job title: Student/Intern {<---this summer!}

K. Kids: Wayyyyy too young to be thinking about that at this point in my life.

L: Live: I spend my time between three different cities, but most of my time is spent at school, in Gainesville, Fla.

M: Mom's name: Julie.

N: Nicknames: Skippy {when I was little} and a slew other pet names that Thomas calls me that I'd rather keep to myself.

O: Overnight hospital stays: Once, when I was three or four and had to get stitches for falling off a slide at the park.

P: Pet peeve: There are soooo many I could list right now! People who chew gum loud, who talk while they're eating, slow drivers, people who don't respond to texts/emails/phone calls and finally, people who talk in the movies. I mean, why did you pay $9 to get in just to talk and not pay attention? {Thomas and I had to deal with a couple sitting behind us during a movie this weekend, and when he kindly asked them to stop talking, they laughed at him and continued to talk, but louder. Needless to say we moved, but when we did, they clapped. Not only was I furious, but I was really shocked to find that such ignorant and immature people really do exist!}

Q: Quote from a movie: "So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, for ever, you and me, every day. Will you do something for me, please? Just picture your life for me? 30 years from now, 40 years from now? What's it look like? If it's with him, go. Go! I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If I thought that's what you really wanted. But don't you take the easy way out."
R: Right or left handed: Right handed.

S: Siblings: Five brothers and a sister. I'm the oldest.

T: Time you wake up: Between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on weekdays. On the weekends, it could be noon.

U: Underwear: I wear it, yes.

V: Vegetable you dislike: I actually really like vegetables. A lot. The only vegetable that I can think of that's not my favorite is onion. I really hate the aftertaste, so I tend to stay away from it as much as possible.

W: What makes you run late: Figuring out what to wear. Even with all the clothes in my closet, I can never decide on anything to wear.

X: X-Rays you've had: For my wrist in fourth grade. I broke it by playing four square...

Y: Yummy food you make: Baked goods! Seriously, I love making cookies, cakes and cupcakes. Yum, yum, yum!

Z: Zoo- favorite animal: Elephant. I remember a couple of years ago I actually wanted to study zoology in order work with elephants. They're quite adorable.

Weekend Recap

Oh goodness, this weekend was a good one.
Thomas and I were in the mood to see a movie, so on Saturday we headed to the local theater and bought a ticket for Your Highness. After that movie, we hopped to a few other movies...

Okay, okay, I realize what we did wasn't right, but once in awhile it's just good to break the rules and step out of my comfort zone. It's safe to say that this was not my idea, but I did go along for the free movies! It's okay, though, we spent well over the price of the tickets at the concession stand. {They even had fries!}

Yesterday, Thomas and I hit up our favorite Italian chain restaurant for their new dishes. Those commercials really do work.... So incredibly good! And then we hit up the movies again because Thomas wanted to see Hanna. We ended the night with vanilla cones from McDonald's, so I was a happy girl.

I'm a little sad now, though. I'll be at school for a little over two weeks to finish up this semester, and I won't get to see Thomas or my family until then. Not cool.

Best Week Ever/Weekly Gratitude

 {Isn't this the cutest?}
Although this week was probably the busiest week I've ever had, it was quite possibly the best. Like I said in the previous post, the good news just keeps a comin'. I'm sooo happy!

Here's what happened:
1. I took the SAT 2 Spanish test Tuesday night to try and test out of Spanish so I'll never have to take it again....AND I PASSED!
2. One of my stories got published on The Gainesville Sun's blog. Yay!
3. I GOT A SUMMER INTERNSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!! I just had an interview for an internship at Orlando Weekly, and was offered an internship on the spot. {Of course I said yes!!!}
I'm so so happy right now. I'm so incredibly thankful for every wonderful thing that happened this week.

This weekend, Thomas and I went out to lunch/dinner at a new restaurant {well, new to us} called Crave. After walking in, we immediately felt like it was going to be wayyy out of a couple of poor college kids' price range. But after a few minutes of looking over the menu, we knew this was the place for us.

I ordered a salad and personal pepperoni pizza with goat cheese {don't judge}, which were delicious!
Thomas ordered sushi, which made him very happy.
And we ended the meal with an extra delicious dessert. May I present to you, the dessert of all desserts, the Smores Brownie Sundae. You're welcome.
It's a brownie with a graham cracker bottom, topped with toasted marshmallow, with a side of toasted marshmallow ice cream and smoked sea salt for a salty flavor.
Heaven. In. My. Mouth.

Busy, busy, busy

To say I was busy this past week, plus weekend, is an understatement. Although I did get to see my family and go on a couple of precious dates with Thomas, I managed to find little time (more like no time) to update this little blog of mine. For that, I apologize.

However, this morning I awoke to some good news:
1. One of my stories was published. Eeeeek!
2. Something I want to keep to myself for now. (I don't want to jinx it or anything like that...)

I will be back to normal posting soonish. This week is a super busy one for me (aren't they all?), but I'm trying here!
