Dreamin' of a vacay

Aren't these pictures gorgeous? Pinterest definitely knows how to get me in the mood for a European getaway. I'd literally give anything for a vacation to my favorite Parisian city.

Where have I been?

This has been one whirlwind of a weekend, but I'm baaaaack!

Swap & Shop
On Friday night after I got home from my internship, I cleaned out my closet and headed to my very first clothing swap. It was held at a local indie coffee shop {which was so cute} in a part of town called College Park. Because it was pouring outside, I decided to head in early and get my swappin' on! I'd say I did pretty good- I left with a reusable bag filled to the brim with clothes, shoes, purses and even a new book!
Because I was at a coffee shop, I couldn't leave without ordering an iced coffee. I may have had a chocolate chip scone, too... The swap was such a great experience {and a great way to spend a rainy Friday night!} that I can hardly wait for the next one! Who knew trading clothes could be so fun?

Day of Relaxation
The only thing Thomas and I did on Saturday was venture out to Einstein's {we're totally addicted!} for some late breakfast. It rained all day, which left us with little to no options of what to do. So we planted ourselves inside and declared it a "lazy day."
The rain eventually led up after Thomas went to work, so I laced up my sneaks and went for a nice three-mile run. I really need to find a new route, my runs are getting to be too predictable, which isn't that fun after awhile. Not good!

Sunday Funday
Since Thomas has Sundays completely off, we usually dedicate them to "date days," and this Sunday was like no different. After grabbing a bagel and an iced coffee, we decided to hit up the mall because honestly, we couldn't think of anything else to do. The weather was still a little if-y, so we wanted something to do, yet still be indoors.

We stopped in Urban Outfitters {pretty much the only store we both love other than Target}, where I ended up finding a few gems. I also bought a pair of black flats, but you can probably guess what those look like.
{A leaf bracelet and long feather earrings}

After the mall, Thomas took a detour to Barnes & Noble {my favorite!}, where I picked up this book. I've been dying to read it for quite some time, so I'm pretty excited to dive in!

I ended the night with another three-miler....and maybe some ice cream. Have you tried these things? Crazy good, but extremely rich!

Salad disaster

Today has been such a lazy day. I laid around in bed all day and did nothing productive. Unless you count going to McDonald's to try the new Asian salad and mango & pineapple smoothie, then I was quite productive.

The smoothie was awesome! I really, really loved it. So fruity and delicious. The salad on the other hand was, well...let's just say I didn't enjoy it.

(Side note: First, you should know that I do not like dressing on my salad- never have, never will. Anyway, the kind associates at McDonald's decided to do me a favor and add the dressing for me.....that's never happened before, and I did not like it. I've always felt that dressing takes the flavor out the vegetables, and it just made me mad that my salad was tainted before I really got to enjoy it.) Okay, rant over.

Once I was finished with dinner, the rain came.....and ruined all of my plans of working out outside. Boo. Why does this always happen to me when I'm actually in the mood to sweat? I really don't get it. So it looks like I'll be moving my cardio inside for the night. I'm just not sure what it'll be. Maybe a Pilates DVD?

I'm hungry for a little something sweet, so I better go fill the craving!

Sleeping soundly

Lately I've been trying to stay consistent with blogging by posting during the weekdays, but clearly I have failed. Immediately following dinner last night, I passed out. I ended up sleeping for about four hours {oops}, and was greeted with an M&M cookie ice cream sandwich c/o Thomas. {Thanks, babe!}

Anyway, I even managed to fall back asleep a few hours later. Obviously with all this sleeping, I wasn't able to get a workout in {which really, really saddened me}, but at least I was able to catch up on some much needed rest, which is more important.

I ended up sleeping in way later than I had planned this morning, which was disappointing, but hey, it happens. Thomas came home from school soon after, and immediately persuaded me to go get a mid-afternoon pick-me-up from DD. {Okay, so it was totally the other way around, you know I how I like my sweets!} I got the usual {an iced coffee} and a sweet treat: a rainbow sprinkles chocolate donut. Yummmm. Thomas ordered the frozen hot chocolate, which was very chocolately, but not my thing. Surprising, I know. It's weird, because I absolutely love anything chocolate, BUT when it comes to drinks, I want nothing to do with rich, chocolately goodness. I'm an oddball, I know.

The remainder of my day was spent watching my current fav show {Netflix}, running a mere three miles {it was an easy day because I missed last night's workout} and a dinner date with my turkey sub from Subway. Mmm.

Now I'm catching up on blogs and waiting for the boyfriend to get home from work. I'm already sleepy, so who knows how much longer I'll be functioning for!

Weekend Recap

Is it just me, or did this weekend fly by?

Monday morning just came wayyyyy too early for me. I was not ready for it. Which is why I had to stop and pick up one of these this morning. I'm. Addicted.

I think it was so hard for me to get up this morning because I had such a good weekend.

Weekends are usually when Thomas and I crave brunch {and usually head over to our favorite spot}, and that's exactly what happened this weekend. Except instead of Village Inn, I suggested we head to a new {to me} place that Thomas enjoyed with his friends a few weeks ago, called Peach Valley Cafe. It's a cute little cafe that serves completely homemade breakfast and lunch.

I didn't really know what to order {my go-to breakfast meal is chocolate chip pancakes- which was not on the menu}, so I decided on something simple and savory: an egg sandwich {scrambled egg whites, American cheese and bacon on whole wheat toast}. It came with a cup of fresh fruit, which was of course, delicious.
After some fun in the sun at the pool, I spent my night catching up on Niptuck episodes via Netflix. It's amazing- I don't even miss cable!

After sleeping in on Sunday morning, Thomas and I had a few things we wanted to get accomplished before the weekend was over: go see Green Lantern and pick up some necessities at my favorite store, Target. And that's exactly what we did. Oh, and we also made a trip to Einstein's for egg and bacon bagel thin sandwiches. It wouldn't be a successful trip without iced coffee, so I got some of that, too!

We ended the night with a little Yahtzee and Arrested Development. Perfection.

Whirlwind of a day

Do you ever have those days when you've got about a million things to accomplish, yet not enough time to do it in? Yeah, today was one of those days. Except that I did get everything I wanted to get accomplished done, and it feels amazing.

Last night I neglected to prepare (and pack) my lunch for today, so that meant waking up about ten minutes earlier than normal, which wasn't exactly what I wanted to do, but I needed lunch, so it had to be done.

Since I still had about forty-five minutes until I needed to be at the office, I decided to stop and get one of these.
I just can't resist...

Once I got to the office, I was immediately put to work. My job was to fact check the cover story, which was well over 5,000 words. I had piles upon piles of paperwork, emails and charts to go through. It took me a total of four hours to get through it all. Talk about thoroughness! It's okay, though. Thanks to my help, the story is accurate, and Billy {the writer} can rest assured knowing that his article is error-free. I really do love my job as intern, even completing the tedious tasks makes me happy. I can't wait until I actually have a career in this field!

After all that fact checking, it was time to write my own story. My editor {goodness, it sounds weird to say that!} really wants the paper's interns to gain as much experience as we can, so she's constantly giving story assignments. Mine was due today. Like I said here, I work well with a deadline, so I typed away until it was exactly time for me to pack up and head home. Woo, it was a close one!

Of course rush hour traffic was in full swing. But, I powered through it and eventually made it home. After spending a few hours relaxing, I headed out for a run. It started sprinkling an hour before I left, but it held up during the entirety of my run {three miles}.

Ever since I've stopped running cross country {I was on the team in high school}, I haven't really put in the mileage that I used to be able to. It's not that I can't, it's just that I prefer shorter, sporadic runs, as opposed to long, lingering runs. I'll get there, but it's just taking some time.

As for now, I think I'm going to head to the kitchen because a nice, creamy bowl of brownie Moose Tracks is calling my name....and I can't say no!

Too little, too late

First off, let me just say that I never win things. Ever. I've always been the sore loser sitting at the table during Bingo cursing the winner under my breath because I was thisclose to winning myself. I know, real classy.
So when I entered a contest yesterday afternoon to win concert tickets to a band I used to really be into last year, I'd never expected to hear anything back, let alone win. Boy was I wrong.

After Thomas went to work tonight {at six}, I waited around a little bit until I could barely keep my eyes open. I knew I wouldn't be able to stay awake any longer, so I turned the lights off and hit the sheets. I guess during this time, I received an email stating I'd won tickets to the concert {which was hours away}.

Of course I had no idea I'd gotten that email. When I woke up, I checked my email and saw the email too little, too late. Oh, that's my luck.

My Boyfriend: The Homemaker

When it comes to cleaning and cooking, Thomas and I have our respective roles {he cooks, I clean}. But every once in awhile, Thomas steps up his game and tackles the cleaning {usually to surprise me}. That's exactly what happened yesterday.

As soon as I got off of work, I called Thomas to let him know I was off and to ask him if he had any ideas for dinner. He didn't, but he did proceed to tell me that he started the laundry, unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher, vacuumed and cleaned Freddy's fish bowl {yes, we have a fish!}. To say I was surprised was an understatement. Not that Thomas doesn't help out, because he does, but just usually doesn't tackle as many chores all at once. Immediately after hearing of his accomplishments, I told him he deserved a nickname: Susie Homemaker. It suits him well.
Since we still didn't know what to have for dinner, we headed over to Publix {our fav supermarket}, and finally decided on meatball subs. Of course we got all of the healthier options, such as whole wheat hoagies, turkey meatballs and a smaller bag of shredded cheese. I love to indulge in classic meals, I just don't like all the calories that come with those meals. These options were the perfect sacrifices.
We also picked up a container of ice cream: Moose Tracks with brownie bits {instead of peanut butter cups}. It was soooo much better than the peanut butter version!

With all of Thomas' hard work {he even made dinner!} yesterday, it's safe to say he earned a new title: Best Boyfriend Ever.

Weekday date night

Yesterday Thomas and I ventured out on the town for a perfect, little date night. Since I was starving when I got home from the office, we headed out to Crispers the second I walked in. I ordered the Signature Summer salad which was topped with mandarin oranges, strawberries, apples, candied pecans, turkey and bleu cheese. It was soooo good! I also got half of a turkey sandwich, and it did not disappoint either. Crispers can do no wrong.

After dinner, we headed out to find some dessert because hello, dessert is not an option. I was craving fro yo, so I convinced Thomas to take us to Pinkberry. It didn't take much convincing, because the next thing I know we were indulging in the finest fro yo we've had yet. I got salted caramel with chocolate shavings, Oreo cookies, heath bar and brownie bits. Best fro yo combo ever. Thomas got coconut with pineapple, yogurt chips, Captain Crunch and toasted almond chips {with drizzled honey on top}. Mine was way better than his!
Once we finished dessert, it was time for a movie! Since we've seen most of the movies that are playing now, we decided to get tickets to see Super 8 because we just didn't want the date to end quite yet. The movie was not what I was expecting, and I don't mean that in a good way. I was either bored or confused throughout its entirety. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
It was so nice to get out of the house on a weekday. From now on, weekday date nights are a must.

Weekend Recap

As stated in my previous posts, I spent my weekend at home with family and friends.
On Friday night, my momma made a delicious dinner: cubed steaks with country gravy, corn on the cob and parmesan couscous. I went back for seconds because it was so good! After dinner, my sister and I decided to go for a night run, which felt amazing. Once we walked into the house after our run, we found my mom making fried Oreos. My first thought was, "There goes that workout down the drain," but then I sampled one of the cookies, and couldn't care about anything but the deliciousness that is a fried Oreo.
On Saturday, a couple of my girlfriends met at Olive Garden for my best friend, Nikki's, birthday. It was delicious, as always, but the service was....well, let's just say our server wasn't friendly. After lunch, I headed over to Nikki's house for a birthday party for her brother {they share very close birthdays}. At the party, I fell in love with Nikki's nephew, Isaiah. He's three and absolutely adorable. I really wish I would have gotten a few photos with him.
Later that night, my family and I headed down to the beach to watch the newest Harry Potter film. Although we've all seen it at least three times now, it gave us an excuse to relax in the fresh air on such a beautiful night. And then Nikki came over and we had a sleepover, like old times. It was wonderful.
The next morning we woke up early and headed to the beach for a few hours. Again, it was absolutely beautiful out. When we got home, Thomas surprised me and came drove down to visit with us for the day. He took us out for pizza and then to Target {my family's favorite store}. After lunch we headed over to Nikki's for some pool time. My siblings love Nikki, so they were more than happy to accompany her in the pool. We ended the night with a trip to the park {I ran and my siblings rode their bikes}. It was perfect running weather {and by that I mean I wasn't overheated in less than two minutes into my run}.
My mom had dinner waiting for us when we got home {meatloaf, yay!}, so we gobbled that up and packed my car. I was sad to leave, but I had such a great weekend with them, which overpowered the sadness of leaving. I can't wait 'till my next trip home! I don't know when that will be, but I'm ready for it!

He makes my life

I'm home and absolutely lovin' it.
This little guy makes me so happy. Look how cute!

I'll be back tomorrow with family photos and a recap of my trip home. Hope you all are having a good weekend!

Projects, projects, projects

Today is a day of never-ending projects at the 'ol internship office. Seriously, I'm drowning in projects from staff writers (and my own). Gah!

Although it's a little chaotic on this end of things, I'm finding comfort in staying busy. I actually work well (better) under pressure. I really like deadlines, I seem to work harder (and faster) when I'm on a time crunch. I'm not saying I like stress-induced assignments and situations, but I do like how they make me push and work harder than I normally would on a more lax assignment.

I still love what I'm doing, though! Love, love, love it!

Late night sundaes

Aren't they just the best? Thomas and I got a craving for something sweet, cold and delicious after he got off of work, so we drove our little butts over to Mikey D's and got our sundaes. And it was as good as I hoped it'd be! I love $1 desserts. I always feel like a winner ordering something so cheap! Go, me!

What's your favorite late night sweet treat?

I'm in such a good mood

Right now I'm currently working from my cubicle at my internship, and I got the urge to blog! Soooo, here I am!

Let's see, today has been a good day so far. I woke up to a phone call regarding a job interview on Friday (wooop!), stopped and got an iced coffee and a free chocolate chip bagel from Einstein's (I got the hook up!) this morning on my way to the office and I've just been given a new story assignment (and it's something I'm actually interested in)!

I have to get back to work now, but I hope you all are having a wonderful Tuesday!

P.S. I'm going home this weekend for my best friend's birthday. Par-tay!

Trying to get back in the swing of things

Happy Monday!
Remember this post? Well, since then I've tried to incorporate more healthy foods into my diet than what I normally eat. There have been so many more greens in each and every meal, and I'm lovin' it!
Okay, I don't really eat green food for breakfast.

Something about seeing salad food in the wee hours of the morning kinda grosses me out. I'm definitely a strictly "breakfast foods only" eater, and nothing's gonna change that! Eggs and pancakes all the way, baby!
Overall, I feel really good about eating better- both physically and mentally. Plus, consuming clean foods not only benefits me, but the planet as well, and I feel pretty darn good about that, too. Hello, diminishing carbon footprint!

Anyway, it's late and I have to wake up at the crack of dawn tomorrow for my internship {okay, more like 8 a.m., but still, that's kinda early-ish.}

Hope you all had a wonderful day!

P.S. Doesn't that salad look heavenly? It was- and consumed in less than five minutes. Oops.

Recap: Memorial Day Weekend

 Hello, hello, hello!

I finally have found some motivation to dedicate some time to this little blog of mine {it's about time}. With all my free time, I should of found it a little sooner, but oh well. Here I am now.
So this past weekend I decided to pack up my stuff and head home for the weekend. It was much needed! I missed my friends and family! And that little fluffball of mine. Luckily I had Memorial Day off, so I was excited to have another day of QT with the fam.
My time home was spent between homemade meals thanks to my momma, shopping and a lunch date with my best girlfriend, two glorious days at the beach {thank you, Florida weather!}, fresh-baked cookies, home-made smoothies made from fresh fruit from the produce stand and movie nights with my little sister.
Although I had an extra day home, the weekend wasn't long enough. Come to think of it, any time spent at home is never long enough. I miss spending summers at home. I love my family and friends in that little town of mine.

P.S. I promise I'm clothed in the last photo! It was right before we headed to the beach- I'm wearing a strapless top! No nudies here...

I've been hiding

Goodness, I have been such a bad blogger this past week. Although I haven't been super busy, I have had little to no motivation to blog...and that saddens me. I'd love to be able to blog on a daily basis, but again, things aren't all that interesting on this end.

However, this past weekend I did go home for Memorial Day. To quote Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, "There is no place like home." I already want to go back!

I'll get more into what I did tomorrow because I have to get back to work. TGIF!

Hope you all have a good Friday!
