Back From My Hiatus

I suck. (Just look at Mufasa's face above  he knows.)

I didn't really mean to disappear, but you know how it is: stuff happens, life happens, I got busy. But once again, I'm trying to get back to blogging because it keeps my family, friends and online friends up-to-date on what's happenin' in my life. Not that I live such an exciting life ... well, my mom thinks I do. (I love you, Mom!)

So what's been going on? Let's see: I'm currently taking summer classes at my university, I'm interning at two local magazines and I'm the new copy desk chief at the university paper. Basically, this all means  that I'm uber busy  all the time. As a working girl, I live for the weekends now.

Speaking of weekends, it's Memorial Day weekend! If you're like me, it means it's an extra day in weekend, which means it's time for a road trip home! My family and I planning on having a cook-out, going to the beach and lots of naps. (OK, fine, the last part was just for me!)

It's time to get back to work, but I'll leave you with some photos of my life as of late.

Photo Challenge: Day Nine

Lately, I've discovered that I'm a little bit OCD. Tonight, as I was getting ready for the gym, I put my left shoe on before my right. As soon as I did it, all felt wrong in the world. It was just such a weird feeling, such as a wrong feeling.

I also can't leave my bathroom door open unless I'm in the bathroom (oh, the horror of it being ajar!), everything must be in its place before I go to bed every night, and each morning routine must be the same as the morning before.

I may just be a creature of habit, but I know that I have some quirks that may put me in the "OCD" category. Not that there's anything wrong with that - what's wrong with being neat and tidy anyway?

Day 9: A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most.

This guy has taken each one of my frantic "I'm going to drop out of school because I can't do it anymore" phone calls, has helped with cope with family issues and knows all my secrets.

He helps me get through the easy, the hard and the everything-in-between stuff.

He knows me.

And I love him for that.

Thanks, Thomas.

Photo Challenge: Day Eight

This past week has been jam-packed and a little too stressful for my liking. With just three more days of class and work, I can vaguely see a much-needed break in my future.

What will I be doing you ask? Catching up on my Z's, lounging at the beach and finally diving into some books on my shelf that I've been neglected. My break sounds absolutely wonderful.

Day 8: A picture that makes you laugh.
These two little munchkins continually crack me up.

Poor, Mufasa. Daisy is always trying to play with him, but he will just not go for it. He's "too cool" for her.

Every time I see this photo, I'm reminded of how much I miss these two weirdos.

Just a few more days until cuddle time!

....sometimes I can't even believe how weird I am with my cats.

....other times, I embrace it.

But not today. I apologize for being crazy.

Photo Challenge: Day Seven

It's only Tuesday and this week has been a whirlwind. Friday can't come soon enough!

I've been applying to summer internships all day, but I feel like there are so many out there I'm not finding. I'd love to travel to a big city this summer and have a big-girl job, but who knows what will happen. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope something good pops up!

Day 7: A picture of your most treasured item.
 Mufasa, my baby fluffball.

Although he's not an "item," he's my favorite thing to call my own.

Not to sound like a crazy cat lady over here  because it's really starting to look that wa— I love my little cat (editor's note: he's actually a tubby cat and totally not little at all).

Six years ago, I rescued him from a tree and took him home to safety. Ever since, he's been the most loving, grateful pet I've owned.

I treasure my pets very much. They hold a large spot in my heart. I don't want to think about what I would do if anything happened to this guy, but I know it wouldn't be pretty.

Please don't think I'm a weird cat lady after this post.

Photo Challenge: Day Six

This weekend was so nice! Thomas and I spent the entire weekend together eating out, cooking in and just being together. It's been at least a month since we've had quality time together, so just being around one another was enough for us.

Day 6: A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.

Cynthia Leive.

Cynthia is the editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine.

My dream career is to be the editor of a well-known women's magazine.

Growing up, I was obsessed with reading magazines, just as I am now. It only makes since for me to continue to pursue a career in this field.

I'd give anything to have her job!

Photo Challenge: Day Five

With all the sleep I've been missing this week, I more than made up for it today. I took two short naps today in between meetings and classes. And I'm not going to lie, both naps felt amazing. Of course they did. I've been neglecting sleep like a red-headed step-child, so any sleep at all was well worth it.

I went to work tonight expecting to come home to an empty but welcoming bed. Little did I know that Thomas would decide to drive up to visit me for the weekend. The trip is long overdue, so of course I'm super exciting for some quality time together. He's currently at my apartment waiting patiently for me while I'm at work. He already dropped off a bag of Dove dark chocolates. He's the best.

Day 5: A photo of your favorite memory.
My favorite memory to date is from my time in Italy. During my senior year of high school, my best friend, Nikki, and I went with a small group to Italy during spring break.

I don't have any of my pictures of the trip on my laptop now (which I should get), which is why I borrowed one from Google.

When in Italy, I fell in love with the food, the fashion and the overall culture. Everything was so magical and historical. I loved every single second of my time there, and I can't wait to visit again some day.

I'm already planning my next trip to Europe (hello, France, England, Amsterdam, etc.), which will hopefully be after I graduate next year.

Photo Challenge: Day Four

Today was probably the longest day I've ever had. I was on campus for about 12 hours, and not going to lie, it was miserable. With two coffees and a packed lunch, it was still hard to get through. But once I got home, I took a wonderful hour-long cat nap to hold me over until bedtime.

Is it Friday afternoon yet? Just one and a half days until the weekend! Let's do this.

Photo 4: A picture of your night.
This is where I spent the majority of my night. I took a wonderful nap, read for some classes and even indulged in some dark chocolate Hershey kisses. Yum.

Tomorrow will be a make-up day of sorts. I plan on hitting the gym extra hard since I skipped in today for a nap, watching a film for class and reading more required material. Sounds extra fun, right?

Photo Challenge: Day Three

First of all, Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all spent the day with people you love and cherish. I unfortunately spent the day in class, but later on went to dinner and a movie with some friends. We ended up seeing "The Vow," which was very emotional but didn't end how I would have liked it to.

The film definitely made me miss my own Valentine, too. Oh, long distance relationships...

Day 3: A picture of the cast from my favorite show.
Without a doubt, my favorite show on TV right now is "Parks and Rec." This show will always make me laugh.

Plus, Amy Poehler is my hero. Can I be related to her? She's so precious. And hilarious. Even Tina Fey, my other hero, praises Amy for being so, perfect.

The show is flawless. Every character is perfect. The end.

Photo Challenge: Day Two

I have so many assignments, freelance pieces and exams due this week that I may cry, but it's time for a break! Here's today's photo assignment:

Day 2: A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest.

Even as a child, my mom and I were pretty close. I am and will always be a Momma's Girl. I was the only child for eight years, so we bonded for a some time before my siblings came along.

I can tell her anything and everything (which I do), and she does the same. Whether I'm bored, sad or have awesome news, she is the first person I call. Always.

I couldn't ask for a better role model and best friend. I love you, Mom.

Photo Challenge

Even though I love updating my blog, I often find it difficult to come up with interesting topics to talk about. I could tell you all about school, or work, or even what I ate for breakfast, but I think that if I had a set topic, it would make things a lot easier (and fun for readers, too!).

So, I've decided I'm going to do the 30 Day Photo Challenge. This means I'll be posting every day, so keep checking up. Here's to the first day!

Day 1: A picture of yourself with 10 facts.
1. I'm in love with my cats. Actually, all cats. I really, really like cats. A lot.

2. I am addicted to iced coffee. I'd like to blame my parents for loving coffee so much, but it's really my bad. I'm the one who stops every day for my cup of joe. And I do mean EVERY DAY. (AH!)

3. I love reading. I never have enough free time to read as much as I would like (read: never), but when I do, I dive in for hours at a time.

4. I've become quite the girly girl over the last two years. I really love buying makeup, I LOVE shopping and I like looking nice and made up.

5. I'd love to get into photography. After receiving my birthday camera, I'm excited to sit down and teach myself how to take really nice pictures.

6. I'm super close with my mother. I can tell her almost everything that goes on in my life. She gets me.

7. My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost three years now, and I'd say that he knows me better than anyone does. He gets that I'm weird and happily accepts it. Well, maybe he just goes along with it? Either way, I'll take it! Oh yeah, and I love him a whole lot, too.

8. My dream career is to be a women's magazine (or Women's Health) editor residing in either Cali or Manhattan. Big city dreams? Maybe, but I really, really want it, so I'm just going to keep working my tail off to get there!

9. I have a major sweet tooth. For example, as I'm typing this, I'm popping dark chocolate kisses in my mouth. I'd like to thank my mom for passing on the sweet tooth gene. Every night she has to have dessert, and I had to be just like her and do the same. I'm not complaining, though. Dessert is my favorite meal(s) of the day. Or is that breakfast? Either way, I love dessert.

10. Speaking of dessert, OK, so this has nothing to do with dessert, but I love working out. Actually, I love the endorphins after working out. I used to run cross country in high school and hated it, but now, I really love running. Plus, I feel so much better about myself after a workout, so that's why I continue to do it day after day.

Best Birthday Gift — Ever

For my birthday this year, I received something I've had my eye on for years: a DSLR camera. Specifically, the Canon Rebel T3. Although I haven't had too much experience with photography, I'm ready to teach myself as I go.

I took a few photos when my family visited, but not enough to be fully comfortable with it. Here's to hoping my new camera and I become fast friends!

Family Time and a Surprise

As a belated birthday celebration, my family came to visit me at school for the weekend.

Apparently they are good at keeping secrets, too, because they didn't even tell me they'd be bringing along my best friend Nikki.

As soon as they arrived, we headed out to lunch at a cute, little lunch spot that specializes in their homemade quiches. If you're a quiche fan, this is the place to be. Then we did some shopping. We stopped in some on of the vintage and thrift shops located around town.

After a quick coffee break, I decided to take them around my campus -- it's been three and a half years and they have yet to see all of what my school has to offer-- so it was time. We spent between two and three hours wandering around campus until it was time for some dinner.

We went to one of my favorite restaurants in town -- the Top. They have the best sweet potato fries I've ever had in my life. My mom loved them so much she ordered another side of them! I'm telling you, they are amazing.

After an obligatory trip to Target, we headed home and order some dessert -- Midnight Cookies. Midnight Cookies is a cookie delivery service that makes the best cookies in town. They were loved by all.

The next morning we said our goodbyes and they went on their way home. I had a wonderful time with my family and Nikki. And now that Nikki has visited, she is now obligated to come back -- soon!

While I Was Away

On a whim, Thomas and I decided we wanted to go out of town for New Year's. There's not much to do in our hometown, plus we're not used to be home for New Years, so we wanted to plan something fun.

So, on New Year's Eve, we packed our stuff and drove to the other coast of Florida -- to Cocoa Beach. I had never been, and Thomas was wanting to get away for a few days, too, so it was the perfect little staycation destination.

While we were in Cocoa, we partied hard in the hotel room (read: we watched a marathon of "The Big Bang Theory" and ordered cheesy bread from Dominos) on New Year's Eve, visited the Brevard Zoo, hit up a vintage arcade, had a wonderful authentic Mexican meal and strolled on the Atlantic Beach.

We had a great time. I would definitely recommend the cute, little town of Cocoa to anyone looking to get away (and near a beach for a few days)!

I'm Back and Here to Stay!

I realize that I've been gone for awhile now, but alas, I am back!

Since I've been gone, I've celebrated a few major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and most importantly, my 21st birthday!

I've also managed to get a part-time job as a copy editor at my university's paper.

Although I'm finding myself with less time to myself, I'd be lying if I said I didn't love how life's been working out for me.

I'm excited for what's to come. Hope you'll stick around!
